Walking through the rain in Whirinaki I swore that I would never tramp in the rain again. This New Years would be for sunny walking, the sort where every river pool looks inviting and sunscreen must be applied religiously. When Hugh and I checked the forecast on boxing day it shone brightly on the Wangapeka Track, a 57km route that traverses the southern edge of Kahurangi National Park. There would be options for tops travel and to spice things up a bit we would traverse the Lookout Range to meet the start of the track by Rolling River. What could go wrong?
